Frank Lloyd Wright Architecture ~ Florida History Tour / Feb 1, 2024 / $82.00 p/p

Lakeland Florida is not only one of the most beautiful inland cities in the state it is also home to an amazing collection of Frank Lloyd Wright buildings and is the focus of this tour led by historian Dave Bredemus.

We will visit Florida Southern College, which is a National Historic Landmark.  Florida Southern College is said to be the most interesting college campus in the United States, with its spectacular collection of the most Frank Lloyd Wright buildings in the world, 17 total structures and the campus is located on beautiful Lake Hollingsworth.

 

 

On campus we will visit the Frank Lloyd Wright visitor center and gift shop to educate ourselves about prairie style architecture. Our walking tour around campus will be led by an experienced docent who will be explaining the Frank Lloyd Wright buildings we are viewing on campus.  Additionally, we will tour the interiors of the Pfeiffer Chapel, Danforth Chapel and Usonian House.

 

A driving tour of Lakeland is also included with its beautiful downtown and a stop at Hollins Garden.  We will also visit the Polk County Art museum affiliated with the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC.  A drive by historic Joker Marchant baseball stadium home of the Detroit Tigers is included. 

Lunch  will be on your own at a Lakeland, Florida restaurant.

Dave will be your guide on numerous Florida trips that will be an educational experience that explores the history, geography, architecture, and cultures in a fun and interesting way.

Born and raised in Saint Paul Minnesota, Dave graduated from St. Cloud State University with a teaching degree in history and social studies. He taught junior high and high school history and was an administrator in the Saint Paul Public School system for 38 years.

He developed a tour program for adults starting in 1981 and has done hundreds of day trips and many overnight trips covering every state in the United States. Dave has also led 17 trips to Europe and additional trips to Asia and the Caribbean including Cuba.

On the day of your trip we have several Pick-Up Locations throughout Manatee, Sarasota & Charlotte Counties for you to drive to and park your car.  We will pick you up at one of these locations and drop you back off there when your tour has ended. You can pick the location that is most convenient for you.
